Port districts, shop information, and National Park Service visitor guidance checked August 1, 2026. Confirm today's shop and fort hours.
Get the free PDF guide ↓Allow about 4 to 5.5 hours for yarn and one fort; 5.5 to 8 hours for the fuller Old San Juan route. You'll travel by taxi or rideshare to madejas, then walking in old san juan and keep the final 75 minutes free for the return to your ship.
Check your ship's daily program before you go ashore. Your terminal can change how long it takes to reach the first shop.
Piers 3 and 4 on Calle Marina beside the historic centre
taxi: Allow 20–35 minutes to Madejas
Use the signed taxi or rideshare pickup and show the driver the Avenida De Diego address. Afternoon traffic can lengthen the ride.
Pan American Piers East and West on Isla Grande
taxi: Allow 15–30 minutes to Madejas
Take a taxi or rideshare from the terminal pickup zone. Keep the Pan American terminal address for the return.
Old San Juan is across the bay from this terminal, so plan a taxi between the two districts.
Check your ship's app or boarding documents for Old San Juan or Pan American. If the terminal remains unclear, ask the ship before going ashore and save the terminal address in your phone for the return.
Taxi or rideshare
The shop sits inland from both cruise districts; doing it first keeps the rest of the day close to the port.

Confirm the closing time before leaving the terminal, especially on Friday or Saturday.
Walk
San Cristóbal is the shorter choice; El Morro adds a longer cross-town walk.
Walk or taxi
Old San Juan and Pan American use different roads and entrances.

Visit the yarn shop first, then return to Old San Juan for one fort and a relaxed walk near the port.
Allow 3h 45m–5h 30m, including the time set aside to get back to your ship.
Old San Juan District: allow 3h 50m–5h 30m
Pan American District: allow 3h 50m–5h 30m
Visit Madejas, then choose a longer Old San Juan walk linking San Cristóbal, the city walls, and El Morro.
Allow 5h 30m–8h 5m, including the time set aside to get back to your ship.
Allow 60–90 minutes
The largest Spanish fortification built in the Americas protects the eastern side of the walled city and has broad coastal views.
Check current visitor informationAllow 60–90 minutes
El Morro overlooks the entrance to San Juan Bay. Reaching it from San Cristóbal adds a warm, exposed walk across the old city.
Check current visitor informationCheck the shop before leaving the ship. If the hours miss your call, keep the day in Old San Juan and visit the forts.
Visit Madejas, choose San Cristóbal as the one historic stop, and return to your terminal with the full 75 minutes free.
Choose one fort, use shaded streets for the return, and carry water.
Enter your email and we'll send the two-page PDF. You can download it here right away too.
Your ship's daily program and each shop's latest notice take precedence if a berth, timetable, or opening hour changes.
1 yarn shop and 1 craft or textile stop to explore. San Juan has real yarn shopping, but not at the pier. The strongest stops sit in residential neighborhoods a 15–25 minute ride from the Old San Juan piers, so build the yarn run as a taxi errand and keep Old Town walking for the rest of the call.
