Get the free PDF guide ↓Allow about 3 to 4.5 hours for the town route; 4.5 to 7 hours for both wool shops. You'll travel by walking, with the free port shuttle from holmsgarth and mair's pier and keep the final 60 minutes free for the return to your ship.
Check your ship's daily program before you go ashore. Your terminal can change how long it takes to reach the first shop.
Holmsgarth cruise berth, about 1 km from the town centre
shuttle: Allow 10–20 minutes to reach the town centre
The port runs a free shuttle to the town centre. Allow time to board when several tours leave together.
walk: Allow 20–25 minutes to Commercial Street
The walk is roughly 1 km before the final town-centre streets. The shuttle is easier in rain or with limited time.
North Lerwick, about 1.2 km from the town centre
shuttle: Allow 10–20 minutes to reach the town centre
Use the free port shuttle and note the pickup point for the return.
walk: Allow 25–30 minutes to Commercial Street
Mair's Pier is the longest of the town berth walks in this guide.
Beside Lerwick town centre
walk: Allow 3–7 minutes to Jamieson's of Shetland
Commercial Street begins close to the pier. Follow the signed pedestrian route out of the working harbour area.
Sheltered dock beside the town centre
tender: The port lists about 5 minutes from the inner anchorage and 10–15 minutes from the south anchorage
Tender queues add time beyond the boat ride. Once ashore, Jamieson's of Shetland is a short town walk.
Check your ship's app or daily program before you leave the cabin. If the arrival point remains unclear, allow the Mair's Pier travel time and ask the welcome team whether you need a shuttle or a tender queue for the return.
Walk, shuttle, or taxi
Your pier decides whether Commercial Street is beside you or a shuttle ride away.

2 yarn shops to explore. Lerwick is one of the clearest wool wins in the North Atlantic. Some ships berth at Holmsgarth or Mair's Pier, while tenders can land closer to Commercial Street, so the exact pier determines whether this is a short browse or a taxi-assisted wool run.
