Free port shuttles connect the cruise piers to Largo della Pace; from there it is train or coach into Rome. Keep the return buffer conservative — Civitavecchia–Rome delays can wreck a day fast.

The direct cruise-station service is the simplest start when its operating hours match your call.

Use the free cruise shuttle to the service centre, then continue to the station.
Dock 25 is farther north in the port, so allow extra loading time when using Largo della Pace.
Check the gangway sign or your ship's daily program. If the dock number is still unclear, use the dock 25 allowance and ask port staff whether the direct station bus will return to your ship.

The station bus is about 15 minutes and the train can reach Rome in under an hour; waits and the metro complete the allowance.

Go directly to the shop and one nearby outdoor landmark. This still needs a long call because Rome is far from the cruise dock.

Add the EUR museum district and lake only when the ship gives you at least nine hours ashore; ten to eleven hours is more comfortable.
